Video Resources
We have tried to create or share a variety of classroom-friendly video resources for this project. In Fall 2018, we conducted a series of short interviews with our Board of Advisors on key topics relevant to this initiative, including the origins of the term "slave stampedes," fugitive slave crisis of the 1850s, freedom suits, slavery in Missouri and the western Underground Railroad. To further help provide background and context on other key terms and episodes from the era, we are also sharing segments from Project Director Matthew Pinsker's 2017 contributions to the History Channel's "Sound Smart" series of online videos. In 2019 and 2020, we also developed a series of documentary short narrative films that tell the remarkable stories of nearly a dozen different slave stampedes or attempted group escapes from Missouri in the antebellum and wartime period.
