PERRY COUNTY Is situated in the south part of the state, and has an area of 420 square miles. It is intersected by Beaucoup creek, which flows southward into the Big Muddy river. The county consists partly of prairie and partly of timbered lands; the soil is generally fertile. Corn, oats, cattle and swine are the staples. It contains several fine churches, and has about 600 pupils attending public schools. The Illinois Central Railroad crosses the county near the eastern border. Capital, Pinckneyville.
