              FREDERICKTOWN The county seat of Madison county, is beautifully situated in the midst of a mountainous country, about 15 miles from Pilot Knob, the present terminus of the Iron Mountain Railroad, and about 102 miles from St. Louis. The county was first settled by the French in 1790, and the town laid out in 1818. It contains one Catholic and one Methodist church, one Masonic lodge, and one high school. Population 300.
