HENDERSON COUNTY Is situated in the west part of the state, bordering on Iowa, and has an area of 640 square miles; the Mississippi river forms the western boundary, and it is intersected by Henderson river, and by Honey and Elison creeks; the surface is diversified by prairies and woodlands, the soil is fertile; corn, wheat, oats, potatoes and hay, are the staples. The county contains about a dozen churches, and one or two newspaper offices; there are about 900 pupils attending public schools. Beds of stone coal and limestone are found in the county ; it is intersected by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroad. Until 1841, this formed part of Warren county. Capital, Oquawka.
