LAWRENCE COUNTY Is situated in the east-south-east part of the state, and has an area of 325 square miles. The Wabash river forms the eastern boundary, and the county is intersected by the Embarrass river, which flows into the Wabash. The surface is uneven and in some parts is fertile, in others it is low and unproductive. Corn, wheat, oats, cattle and swine are the staples. The county is also intersected by the Ohio & Mississippi railroad. It contains a number of churches and one newspaper office, and has about 2,000 pupils attending public schools.
