MACON CITY, Or Hudson, is a flourishing town in Macon county, situated on the junction of the North Missouri and Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad, 168 miles from St. Louis, 125 from Jefferson City, and 7 from Bloomington, the county seat. The town was laid out in the year 1856, by James N. Tirrell, J.M. Curless, and S.H. Herndon, and the post office established in 1856. It contains one Presbyterian church, besides one Christian socity, and one Methodist, who are making the necessary arrangements for having a church erected, also a Masonic lodge, viz.; Laporte Lodge, No. 106, E. Ash, W.M.; four hotels, several stores, one printing office, &c. There are also in the vicinity of the town three saw mills (one water and two steam), two grist mills (one steam), brick yard, &c. A large extent of fine farming country, well timbered and watered, is tributary to the town, which makes it an excellent point for trade. Population 1,500.
