WARRENSBURGH The county seat of Johnson county, Warrensburgh township, is situated on Post Oak creek, 260 miles from St. Louis, and 120 from Jefferson City. A daily stage runs to Tipton, 60 miles, one to Independence, 55 miles, and a tri-weekly to Lexington. The town contains four churches, viz: Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist and Christian. A Masonic Lodge, viz: Johnson Lodge, No. 85, and Demolay Chapter, No. 26. The Odd Fellows have a Lodge, called Ureka. The Warrensburgh Male and Female Institute is situated here, and is in a flourishing condition. There are two papers published here, viz: Weekly Union, Clinton A. Middleton, publisher, issued on Wednesday; and the Western Missourian, issued every Friday, and published by J. M. Patterson. The chief products are corn and wheat. Timber, oak, hickory and walnut. Coal is also found here in large quantities. Improved land may be bought at $15 to $25 per acres, and unimproved for $10 per acre. It contains eleven dry goods stores, four grocers, two drug stores, one book store, one hardware and two stove and tinware houses, four clothing establishments, seven or eight blacksmith and wagon shops, and other establishments in proportion.
