Worcester (MA) Bay State Farmer, "Negro Stampede," May 29, 1847

NEGRO STAMPEDE. We learn that a stampede occurred among the negroes at and near Maysville, a few days ago. Five or six of the number belonged to a prominent and influential member of the Northern Methodist Church at Maysville. And we also understand that a distinguished preacher of that denomination was at the gentleman’s house at the time his negroes le ft [left].
