WINCHESTER A thriving post village, capital of Scott county, situated on Sandy creek, 51 miles west by south from Springfield. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in manufactures, for which the creek affords motive power. Good lime stone, stone coal, and potters' clay are found at this place.
