 Funeral--Death of Jordan Branch--

      Stampede of Slaves, &c.

CORRESPONDENCE OF THE RICHMOND DAILY DISPATCH.

                            PETERSBURG, Sept. 10th.

The funeral of the late David Donman, Sr., was solemnized this morning at the Tabb street Presbyterian Church, attended by an immense throng of persons. An impressive discourse was delivered on the occasion by the Rev. A.W. Miller. The remains of the lamented man were escorted to Branford Cemetery by the St. Andrew's Society, and accompanied by a numerous train of carriages, forming on the whole a most importing cortege.

Intelligence was received here this evening of the death of Jordan Branch, Esq., of this city, who for some weeks past has been sojourning in ill health, at the Hot Springs, Greenbrier county, Va. Mr. Branch was one of our most esteemed citizens, and held the office of City Sergeant for a series of twenty years.

A stampede of slaves was prevented a few nights ago by the police. A Philadelphia vessel was suspected of having bargained for the wrong sort of cargo, and sundry slaves were known to have been making preparations for embarking. Both parties finding the police on the alert, gave up the enterprise. The vessel was searched at City Point, yesterday, before her departure.   ARIEL.
