ARROW ROCK, A post town of Saline county, Arrow Rock township, situated on the Missouri river, 18 miles from Marshall, the county seat, 250 miles by river from St. Louis, and 60 to Jefferson City, was first settled in the year 1801, by A. Benware and B. Lawless. The post office has been established 25 years. There are two stage lines, the Boonville and Independence line, running through this town, and one to Jonesborough, and Ridge Prairie, distance 35 miles, running weekly. Arrow Rock contains one Female Seminary, a Library and a Philomathean Society. The Masons have a Lodge, viz: Arrow Rock, No. 55, and the Odd Fellows' Friendship, Lodge No. 40. There is one Methodist and one Presbyterian Church, a branch of the State Bank of Missouri, capital $100,000. The chief productions are hemp, wheat, corn, oats and tobacco. Timber, cotton wood, oak and hickory. Minerals, lead and coal. The average price of uncultivated lands is $15 per acre, and for cultivated $25. Population 1000.
