CLARK COUNTY, situated on the eastern boundary of Illinois, on the west side of Wabash river. Area, 500 square miles. Seat of justice, Marshall. Pop. in 1830, 3,124; in 1840, 7,453; in 1850, 9,532. (Fanning's, 1853)

CLARK COUNTY   Is in the east part of the state, bordering on Indiana, and has an area of 460 square miles. The Wabash river, navigable by steamboat?, forms its boundary on the south-east. The county is intersected by the north fork of Embarras river, and is also drained by Fox and Crane creeks. The surface is diversified by prairies and forests, the soil is productive, adapted to wheat, corn, oats and pasturage. Along the Wabash river stone coal is found to some extent. The county is intersected by the great National road. The projected Atlantic and Mississippi railroad will also pass through the county. Capital, Darwin.
