DE KALB COUNTY Is located in the north part of Illinois, and has an area of 648 square miles. It is drained by Sycamore and Indian creeks, affluents of the Kishwaukee and Fox rivers. The surface is undulating, and the soil good. The greater part of the country is cultivated prairie, with some good timber. Wheat, corn, oats and hay are the staples. It contains many fine churches, and its school advantages are excellent. Capital, Sycamore. Population, about 11,000. (Hawes' Illinois State Gazetteer...,1859)
