HARRISONVILLE The county seat of Cass county, on the east fork of Grand river, about 300 miles from St. Louis, and 160 miles from Jefferson City. The chief products are corn and wheat—timber, oak and walnut— mineral coal. The average price of uncultivated land is $5 per acre, cultivated $15. There is one stage line from Harrisonville to Independence, 35 miles. Harrisonville contains two churches, viz., one Baptist and one Methodist, one Masonic Lodge, viz., Prairie Lodge, No. 90, one weekly newspaper, the Western Democrat, published every Saturday, by F. L. Fogle, one school, four plow makers, three ambrotype artists, six attorneys at law, three blacksmiths, one carding machine, seven carpenters, three wagon makers, three brick yards, one butcher, two cabinet makers, two druggists, eight general stores, one livery stable, two saddlers, two hotels, three grocers.
